New York High School Football Pre-Season Practice Starts August 16th

Welcome to our new look for the 2010 New York high school football season!

With the first day of practice beginning August 16th, I wanted to take the time to thank all of my readers, who have made this blog successful over the past three years.  I have bigger-and-better things planned this year with more original content.

Also, don't forget to check-out High School Football America for great high school football stories from around the country.  If you have story ideas that I should know about, please feel free to email me.

Upstate vs. Downstate All-Star High School Football Game to be Played in Syracuse Sunday

Players Begin Preparations for First New York State High School Football Classic - Upstate vs. Downstate

The first ever New York State High School Football Classic will be played on Sunday (June 6th) at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

98 of the top seniors in the Empire State will workout throughout this week in preparation for the game that will pit stars from upstate against stars from downstate.

In Sunday's Utica Observer-Dispatch, reporter Ron Moshier wrote about a couple of local players getting ready for the game before heading-off to start their college careers.

New York Changes Rules for Fall High School Football Practices

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle is reporting that the New York State Public High School Athletic Association will give football teams one extra day of helmet-only workouts this fall.


Players will now be limited to two days of non-contact drills in just helmets, instead of three.

Former Atlanta Falcon Named Head Coach of Skaneateles HS

It was a close vote, but by a 4-3 margin, former Atlanta Falcon and Syracuse University defensive end Tim Green is the new head coach of the Skaneateles Lakers football program.

According to the Auburn Citizen, the school board chose Green over Ron Doctor. Last year, the Lakers finished 1-7.

Plans for New York State High School Football Classic Announced

The best New York high school football players from upstate will take-on the best from downstate in the first New York State High School Football Classic June 6th in the Syracuse Carrier Dome.

The all-star game will feature between 80 and 100 players with the Upstate roster being made-up of players from: Buffalo - Section 6, Rochester - Section 5, Syracuse - Section 3, Binghamton - Section 4, Albany - Section 2 and North Country - Sections 7 and 10. The Downstate roster will have players from: Long Island - Sections 8 and 11,NYC-PFAL and Catholic Leagues, Rockland and West Chester - Section 1 and Orange and Ulster - Section 9.

The New York State High School Football Classic was created by the New York State High School Coaches Association following the dissolution of the New York/New Jersey All-Star Football Classic, formerly the Governors Bowl.

Player selection will begin next month.
