High School Football Practice Begins in New York

The road to the New York State High School Football Championships in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse is underway.

Today is the first day of practice throughout the Empire State with the first three days being non-contact with only helmets. Last week, state football chairman Dick Cerone warned teams that violation of the non-contact rule will result in coaches begin suspended for one-game this season.

Here are the teams hoping to defend their 2008...

Class B - Rye
Class C - Southwestern
Class D - Maple Grove

Six Games in Three Days in Carrier Dome Kick-off Regular Season

Syracuse's Carrier Dome is where the 2009 high school football season will come to a close on November 28th and 29th. It will also play a major role in the start of the season with six games over the Labor Day weekend.

The annual Kick-off Classic begins Friday, September 4th with East Syracuse-Minoa playing Mexico in the first game of the doubleheader. In the second game, Chittenango takes-on Marcellus.

Here's the entire weekend schedule:

September 4th
East Syracuse-Minoa vs. Mexico 6 P.M.
Chittenango vs Marcellus 8 P.M.

September 5th
Liverpool vs. Fayetteville-Manlius 6 P.M.
New Hartford vs. Oswego 8 P.M.

September 6th
Fulton vs. Nottingham Noon
Fowler vs. Jamesville-DeWitt 2:30 P.M.

Practice across the state begins August 17th.

Pro Bowler to Honor Central New York High School Football Stars

New Orleans Saints Pro Bowler Will Smith hasn't forgotten his roots. The defensive end, who played his high school football at Thomas R. Proctor High School, will return to Utica to host "Evening of All-Stars" on May 2nd to honor members of the 2008 Observer-Dispatch All-Mohawk Valley Football Team.

Smith has created a not-for-profit organization called "Where There's a Will There's a Way" Foundation. Click here to read more.
